Dr Gordon de Brouwer joins our Board

Respected former public servant Dr Gordon de Brouwer PSM has joined the Australian advisory board of The Nature Conservancy, the world’s largest conservation organisation. Dr de Brouwer is the immediate past Secretary of the Department of the Environment and Energy.

Making the announcement today, Board Chairman Rob McLean AM said, “we’re extremely fortunate to have Gordon join the Advisor Board as a Trustee. His outstanding career experience as an economist and leader in environmental policy will be extremely valuable.”

Dr de Brouwer has over 30 years’ experience in public policy in senior leadership positions. Former positions also include the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (Associate Secretary) and Treasury (Visiting Professor, Assistant Secretary and First Assistant Secretary). He has also held very senior positions at the Australian National University and the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Country Director for The Nature Conservancy in Australia, Rich Gilmore also welcomed the  appointment. “Gordon’s professional policy expertise in natural resource management, climate change and energy policy will be particularly important for our work in Australia,” said Gilmore.

Dr de Bouwer said he was looking forward to serving on the Board. “The Nature Conservancy is the world’s leading conservation organisation. I’m really thrilled to be able to have the opportunity to offer my experience and knowledge in a voluntary capacity to assist The Nature Conservancy undertake the really important and highly impactful work it is doing here in Australia like restoring shellfish reefs, tackling climate change and finding sustainable uses for the natural resources of the Murray-Darling Basin.”
