Pollution is deadlier than war

That’s the headline coming out of a new study in The Lancet medical journal finding that environmental pollution kills more people each year than all the world’s war and violence.

Shocking, isn’t it?

At least nine million people worldwide die prematurely each year—including 3,000 Australians, thanks to contaminated water, air, and exposure to other natural resources made toxic by pollutants.

And as tragic as that is, people aren’t the only ones affected.

Each year one million seabirds, including albatross, gannets and terns, and 100 thousand marine mammals, including seals and sea lions, whales and dolphins…are killed by environmental pollutants globally.

Around the world, 700 mammals and birds are facing extinction, of those, 77 species of marine wildlife found in Australian waters has been impacted, including the delicate corals of the great barrier reef.

If there’s any good news here, it’s that it is much easier for YOU to help clean and protect our natural environment than to solve major geopolitical conflicts.

You can help improve our air, fresh water and oceans, for the good of people and wildlife, by donating today.

Donate now

What’s more, one of our generous donors is going to match all donations made by supporters like you – up to $25,000, between now and 24 December.

Please make a donation of $50, $75 or $100 before Sunday 24 December, so your gift goes TWICE AS FAR.

Thanks to you and many Australians just like you, The Nature Conservancy Australia:

Your donation today could help save lives, by keeping our air, lands and waters clean, preserved, and protected.

Just think: by cleaning and protecting our natural environment, nine million people a year—24,657 people a day!—could be saved. 100,000 marine mammals wouldn’t die prematurely, nor would more than a million birds.

I want to donate now

The team at The Nature Conservancy have been working tirelessly to protect our environment from pollutants through the conservation of rivers and reefs, reducing landfill and carbon emissions.

With your help, we can do so much more. By supporting our BIG goals for 2018. You can help us to:

  • Establish 18 hectares of shellfish reefs along the southern shores of Australia to help clean our waters and reduce landfill. It’s the equivalent of 50 billion litres of seawater filtered each year.
  • Reduce carbon emissions by 90% from wildfires across 19 million hectares of land in Northern Australia. That’s the equivalent of taking nearly 400,000 cars off the road.
  • Reduce air pollution in cities by investigating the extent that trees can reduce the concentration of air pollution to improve the health of our communities and wildlife.

But we can’t do it without you. So please, make the most generous gift you can today. This offer expires midnight 24 December, so make your biggest impact by giving now.
